It's Tuesday evening and we are finally coming to the end of this day.
Let me say, it did not go as planned. :-}
We left our North Houston hotel this morning and arrived near the MD Anderson complex with some time to spare. That was great because it gave us an opportunity to stop in and visit the Terra Cotta Warriors exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences. What an incredible exhibit...I think my favorite part may have been the "live warrior" who took my hand and bowed as we made our way through.
After exiting, Larry took Amanda and I to MD for her first scans and he made his way to get us moved into our new hotel. From there the day was...trying, to say the least.
It took quite awhile for them to call Amanda back for her scan. We later learned they were having trouble with one of the machines and were behind schedule. While in the back, preparing for her scan, Amanda mis-judged the height of her scale and caught her foot. That caused her to crash, the nurses to scramble in concern and (needless to say) quite a commotion. Next thing I knew, out came Amanda with a nurse following close behind to let me know about the "incident". Thankfully, Amanda was determined to be fine (just a small bump on her shin) and we were approved to proceed.
Next we were moved to a different scanning area of the hospital where her scan finally got underway. We were thankful to have it go smoothly (no "incidents") and called Larry to come and pick us up. He offered to head right over.
Moments later, a call came from Larry informing us that when he went down to the parking lot, someone had vandalized our rental car. The driver's side window was smashed out, everything was missing from the glove box - including the new Garmin GPS system that we had just gotten him for father's day and were using for the first time.
One police report, one taxi cab ride, one powerful vacuum and lots of phone calls later we were back on our way to the rental office near Hobby airport in order to exchange rental cars.
We left tired, hungry and just thankful for a new vehicle...even a bright red Volkswagon Bug. :-)
Tonight found Amanda and I together in the outside pool, quietly talking about our day and about tomorrow. Scans will start early and we will not know results until later in the afternoon. That can make for a long day. But she is ready for the day and we both continue to trust that this is the path we will walk.
Our conversation included how thankful we are for the prayers that we know support us here in Texas as well as cover those members of our family who remain at home while we are here...
Thank you. Especially at times like this we lean heavily on those.

Know that you have someone in Iowa who just so happened to check in this morning and will be sending prayers up for you all this day...I trust that God is there with you and will support you as you make your way through scans, testing, and waiting on results...Remember that God has moved so many of us in His Love to care about you, to pray for you, to reach out to you in our various ways. Trust that we are faithful to hold you close in our prayers and thoughts as we go throughout our day...
Dear Denise,
As always Amanda and all of you are in my prayers especially at this time. What a blessing you are to one another.
I am sorry you had the misfortune of the car incident. )=
Glad you had a chance to get to Iowa recently. Always nice to come home.
God bless you all.
Love and prayers,
Mary R ( Christenson)
Ps. You are in all of our families prayers and I know Dad goes through all the names of all the cousins and family members each evening lifting all up in prayer to the care of the heavenly Father. It is quite a list!
I'm thinking of you all and holding you close and hugging you in thoughts and prayers this week throughout the day!
