Overall, the day went well for Amanda.
The morning started with some "day after surgery" pain, but the pain team was able to get it under control and she was comfortable for the rest of the day and evening.
Doctors talked with us today about her time in the ICU and we learned that the reason lung patients go there is because their lungs leak. When you think that Amanda had 19 little scrapes or cuts in one lung and 24 in the other, you begin to understand that the integrity of the lung itself was compromised. It takes about 48 hours or more for the lung to begin to heal and seal itself back up. One of the monitors that Amanda has measures the amount of air that leaks out from her lungs. As that slows and then stops, they will know that the lungs are healing.
By this afternoon she was feeling so well she asked if she could get out. Most ICU patients don't want to take a walk, so it took a few of us to undo, unhook, and unplug her from all of her monitors and then carry her equipment with us while she rolled herself around the hallways of the 7th floor. They were very impressed with her stamina and desire to get up and out.
Thank you to each of you who continue to pray for Amanda. There are no words to tell you how very much it means to us. The days and lab results that lie ahead of us hold uncertainty at this time. Your prayers join with ours as we remind ourselves of the One who holds the future and our precious daughter, in His loving hands. The future - Amanda's future - is His and we pray for His grace on her life and the faith to trust.

Amanda is amazing! The power of unified prayer is amazing! Do we sense a recurring theme here? How about "Amazing!!?" We look forward to more reports of unusual strength and courage in difficult times.......and the victory to come!!!
Sometime, if possible, we would like to have the name and APO address of the chaplain. Jim will send a case of books to him for the troops in Iraq.

OK, when I am I.M.ing with your dad, I call you the wonder child. I quess that makes you my wonder niece. Your whole family is amazing, but I need to take a minute and thank you Amanda, for this one thing. No one I know has ever done a better job of living your faith with whatever is handed to you.
