Lung surgery today

We arrived at the hospital shortly before 5:00 a.m. to begin all the pre-op check in. The anesthesiologist has been taking care of their business for the last 45 minutes or so, and the actual surgery will begin at about 8:15.

Surgery will be done on both lungs ... one at a time. The surgeon will start with the right lung because that is where the biggest spot is. The lung will be collapsed and the surgeon then searches the entire lung, feeling for anything and being able to detect things as small as a grain of sand, and removing them.

The surgeon will access the lungs on the sides by making an incision on each side, and going in between the ribs.

At this point we expect to get another update at about 10:00 a.m., and the surgery may actually be completed by noon .... but at 10:00 we will get more information about that.
