Today's chemo

Today was the second half of Amanda's chemo infusion that she was to have before we return to Houston. Because of the drug combination that is in this infusion, Amanda is given some medicine to protect her from a potentially severe reaction and that also happens to make her sleepy. I am thankful to say that it went well, she had no reactions to the drug combo and she was able to rest during most of it.

Anna accompanied us to the hospital today and she and I quietly laughed and enjoyed the hours we spent together playing Skip Bo while Amanda slept. It is a treasure to me to see how considerate each of our children have been in loving Amanda and supporting her through this journey. Their understanding and acceptance of the time that Amanda and I need to be together has been a gift to both of us all these long months.

The doctors have made the decision that we will begin with our daily injections tomorrow instead of waiting until Amanda's counts drop. They are hoping to help offset the big drop by being pro-active with the system boosting injections. That way her body will not have to come back from such a low blood count so close to her time to begin radiation. Last time this chemo infusion was difficult for her system to handle and so we are hoping that these injections will help to make it easier for her and her counts will not drop so low. Please keep her in your prayers as her body begins to respond to this latest infusion.

Six children, one with cancer, five with hearts of love and support for her. I could not love anyone of them more than another...and I could not be any more proud of all six of them.

A mother truly blessed,

me

Denise,
We are so happy to get your latest update on Amanda. So glad that things are progressing well. You and Larry are truly blessed to have such a wonderful family. We love you all and miss you all and pray for you daily.
We are hoping that you have found housing in Houston. It is my understanding that there is a Ronald McDonald house, or something like that near there. Hope that works out for you.
Prayers to you all.
Love, Dad and Mary

Just someone in Iowa who checks in from time to time to see how you are doing. Amanda, my prayers are with you and your wonderfully faith-filled parents, family and friends. I will be praying for wisdom and skill for your doctors and that God will continue to hold you close and make His presence known to you in a very tangible way. Every kindness offered, every smile and every hand that reaches out to you, these are God's way of loving you through the people He is placing in your life. God bless....
