We are through the weekend

It was a long weekend for Amanda. The chemo that she received in the beginning of last week had a delayed response element to it. The Doctors had prepared us for that and we knew to carefully watch Amanda for these effects by the weekend.

True to schedule, they did come. We are thankful for Amanda's sake that the nausea and discomfort was not continual; however, when the "waves" did hit they came quickly and without much notice. It was wearing for her and kept us close to home and fairly uncomfortable throughout the weekend.

Yesterday, Monday was the first of her lab checks as we again begin watching count levels in response to the chemo. Thankfully her counts were still strong and they were very pleased with the numbers. Counts will be taken again on Thursday.

Amanda would really like to be able to finally get back to school with her siblings and friends. Due to the re-occurrence, her surgery and this first chemo treatment, she has missed more school than ever before. Her teachers and the administration at her school have been more flexible and wonderful than I can express, but as the student, Amanda is feeling the pressures of all of the absences.

Supper last night included a large serving of my mashed potatoes (Amanda loves them)and the first signs that her stomach was settled and she was getting her appetite back. Perhaps school will soon be possible... :-)

The journey continues.
