Amanda's Week in Review & What a Way to End the Week!

In my last post, I mentioned that Amanda was looking forward to getting back to school. On Wednesday afternoon, she felt ready and together she and I headed over to the school to determine the "logistics" of her school day. Everyone was so excited and happy to see her and very willing to help in anyway possible.

Part of Amanda's classes are on the main floor of the building and so she uses her wheelchair to attend those, stopping in at her locker between classes to get the notebook and book for each class. The other part of her day is spent on the 2nd floor(the upper rooms, as they are referred to) and so we leave her walker at the bottom of the steps. Once there she parks her chair, uses the walker to go up to her class and then when she comes back down, she again gets in her chair and leaves the walker until time for the next class.

After working out this routine, she happily informed me that there were still two classes left in the day and so she stayed to attend her afternoon classes. Thursday morning found her up and ready to start her first full day and she did so again on Friday. This weekend...homework! She is even (somewhat!)happy about that. :-)

On Thursday evening we got the call regarding her morning labs and, as expected from the effects of the chemo, her counts were down but thankfully, not very low and our doctors were pleased with the numbers and there were no additional precautions or transfusions needed. She will have labs drawn again on Monday morning as we continue to monitor her counts.

School & homework weren't the only new additions to her schedule. On Thursday and Friday evenings Amanda was a stage manager and wore the headpiece as the communications person for her school's fall play. The Mousetrap was a great success and all of the students did an outstanding job.

No rest yet on Saturday as Amanda was finally able to rejoin her beloved cheer squad and cheer with them through two basketballs games. What a treat it was to see her calling out the cheers for her squad and cheering the boys and the girls basketball teams on through their games. I don't remember the scores at this moment, but for me, having Amanda back with her squad represented a great victory.

WOW! It sounds like you all have an outstanding lady there in Columbia. I know you have to be proud of all she has accomplished since returning from TX. God is good & we know deserves much of the credit. What a wonderful work He has done in your daughter's life. I continue to pray for Amanda & think about you guys often (even though we have never met). It is nice to hear that Amanda is back at school- I'm sure that's a relieve to all for her to get back to something that is normal routine. Her spirit & determination speak to all of us. Blessings to you all- Scott, Shannon, & Owen Blumenthal
