Wow .... what a day! The first appointment was at 6:30 this morning.
First ... we didn't think we would see Dr. Anderson until tomorrow ... but as it turned out, we saw him this afternoon late, and then again after he had a phone consultation with the surgeon, Dr. Lewis. Although this still has to be confirmed with a late afternoon consultation between us and Dr. Lewis tomorrow, following is what we "think" is going to happen at this time. But remember, it is possible it could change ... but I didn't want to keep you waiting another day before telling you anything at all.
At this time, we are told that surgery is a GO. That is the best news. If the cancer in the lungs had not responded to the last chemo, they wouldn't do surgery on the hip.
The surgery on the hip/pelvic area will obviously be a very major surgery. The cancer is still active in that area, and will require extensive removal to be sure we get every last cell. The recovery time will be, in the words of the surgeon, "many, many months."
The surgery will probably not take place within the next week, as we first thought, but probably sometime in the first of October, in about a month. In the meantime, additional chemo will be given to continue to battle the cancer.
I know this information is very sketchy, but at least you have the news, and it keeps us in the game. We can beat this thing. And if there was ever anyone who could win this battle, it is Amanda. The doctors are absolutely amazed at her. She inspires them.
Again, we should know more tomorrow evening, and even more still Friday morning, we hope.
We'll keep you posted. Thank you so much for your support and prayers. They are much appreciated.

Thanks for the news. We are glad it looks like surgery will be a go. Keep hanging on. We're praying for all of you.
I am praying for you all!
God bless you, Amanda, and your family who walk beside you with so much hope and love, treasuring you and the gift of having you in their lives.
You do not know me, but I have been following your struggle. (I have this site bookmarked so that I can check in on how you're doing and pray for you regularly.)
I too have great hope for you, for your life and for an end to your cancer. I pray that God continues to hold you close, as we all lift you up in prayer and that you will feel our prayers in a very real and tangible way. I pray that your strength is daily renewed, that God will grant wisdom and skill to every doctor and nurse responsible for your care, that kindness and unexpected signs of support brighten your days and a tender peaces settles your thoughts when you need to rest....
Know that I am just one in an ever growing army of prayer warriors gathered here to help you...God is working through and in your situation in a very powerful and awesome way, trust in that, rely on that, find strength in that...
Prayers continue from Iowa.....
Wow - I felt like I'd been holding my breath for a couple days, and now this morning as I read that the surgery could take place - I got my first big breath! :-) I know the surgery will be extremly difficult, but I also know that you've said it has to happen if she's ever to be cancer free...so now we're praying that God's grace will cover over all of those difficulties, and that He'll use those surgeons to cure sweet Amanda. God bless you all mightily! Lori
Everyone at CFS is praying for you, Amanda, and for your family. We love you and miss having you here, but we hold the joy of your smile in our hearts.

Denise, This is Suzanne (Smith) Nelson from Lisbon Federated Church ... many years ago! I watched you and David grow up through the years as well as admired your involvement in the Frank Gonzales team... long time ago, huh? :-) (Also know your mom and dad which is how I'm aware of Amanda's struggles.) And now after all these years, I'm so amazed at how you and your family are fighting this battle so fiercely! You are all wonderful warriors of God and great examples of how He is with you through all these hard times. And you have many people praying for you and Amanda - to give you peace, confidence, to feel His love and comfort - and to know God will be with you every step of the way. You have so much to be proud of with Amanda - I so admire her determination and attitude. I wish I could be so brave in a situation like this. God bless you all! Suzanne
