Amanda is settled back in at home and we are obviously overjoyed at being here. She gets stronger and more active every day. She has been down to her school to visit her friends there, and other visitors stop by from time to time. Last night we had a wonderful visit with Aunt Becky, Uncle Dan and Aunt Keya, and cousin Kelsey. Great conversation and laughter abounded.
Looking forward, here are some details as we know them at this time.
- Amanda will not return to school until the stitches are removed and she is able to sit comfortably for longer periods of time. I would estimate that to be sometime in mid-November, but remember .... trying to predict Amanda has been challenging. :-)
- On November 2, Denise and Amanda will fly back to Houston for a few follow-up appointments and hopefully to have the stitches removed from the surgery. It will depend upon the healing of the surgical wound, and the doctors will make their decisions at that time.
- On or about December 9-13, Denise and Amanda will be traveling with the prosthetics center in Houston that works with our surgeon at M.D. Anderson, to Minneapolis (NOT Utah, as we originally were told) for a special training and fitting conference, where Amanda has been chosen to be a "model" for the new Helix Hip. You can read about it here on the company's website. The leg will also have a C-Leg microprocessor knee that is quite amazing. Yes, it actually does have a microprocessor in it, and a remote control. And yes, Amanda has already told Caleb he can NOT have the remote. :-) You can read more about the C-Leg here.
- Haley and Matt's wedding is on December 27, and as one of the bride's maids, Amanda fully intends to walk down the isle. :-)
- Posted below is a video of a girl modeling a leg similar to the one Amanda will have. This girl appears to have had a surgery like Amanda had, and it is also her left leg.

Hi, McDaniels- Glad to hear that you all are home. I've been thinking about you guys, but just got a chance to check Manda's progress since Owen's surgery on Monday. What a fighter you have on your hands! I'm sure it is great to be back home & for Amanda to be able to see her friends. The RNs here always say that the kids do so much better once they get home. Praying that is the case for your special daughter. Blessings on your upcoming trips. Love in Christ- Shannon Blumenthal
