Wednesday Morning

The time is almost here...Amanda and I will check into the University Outpatient Surgical Area on Wednesday morning in preparation for the re-placing of her port. Although we never wanted this to happen, we understand that it is necessary to assist Amanda through this now continuing battle against the osteo.

Monday found us down at the Univ. having pre-placement lab work and pre-surgical checks done. Thankfully all labs looked good and everything looks well for the procedure. While meeting with various Doctors and nurses and filling out paperwork, we received a special blessing. One person - I am not certain of her title - came in to ask some medical questions and began to speak so kindly, so joyfully to Amanda, Anna and I. It soon became very clear that she was a believer and as we shared our story, she shared some of her personal stories with us and a bond was soon formed.

Sherry told Amanda that she believes that each person she comes in contact with is for a reason and she then prays for that person by name. She told Amanda that she awakes at 5:10 every morning and begins her day with prayers for those that she will interact with or who have procedures later that day. She promised that Amanda would now be a part of her morning prayers. She said that she has heard that prayers are kinda like little pin lights shining up to the heavens, lighting up the prayers as they raise up toward the throne. As Sherry hugged each of us before leaving, she told us that she would "light the heavens" with prayers for Amanda.

I would give anything if the pathway of my child's life did not include battling osteosarcoma. Anything. But even on the days we dread...the appointments and the upcoming surgeries...I am continually reminded that we do not walk this alone. Time after time God has drawn people along to give us words of comfort and support to strengthen and refresh us, where we did not expect it.

The sweet fragrance of the prayers of the faithful, the light of prayers as they rise toward the heavens...may they all bring my child, her protection and her healing to the very throne the Great Physician.
