Labs and procedure dates

Today was Amanda's first scheduled lab count back here in Columbia. Anna attended with us and although University Hospital is not where we wish to be, it was good to see all the people who have become dear to us while they cared for Amanda.

We have now learned that Amanda's counts are good. They are a bit low (to be expected from all the chemo she had) but well within the safe limits and so no treatment or transfusion is needed. We were very happy and grateful.

We also confirmed that we will return to the University on Monday morning for more labs, a pre-surgical check up and x-rays in preparation for having her port replaced on Wednesday of that week. The procedure is done as out-patient surgery and so she and I will spend the morning there but will be able to come home once she has awakened and recovered enough to do so.

Please keep these dates in your prayers. A port can not be replaced in the same vein or area once it has been removed and so on Monday they will be looking for a second area in which to place it. And, as with any surgical procedure, there are of course some risks and so we just ask that you keep her in your prayers as she faces going through this procedure once again.

The days we are having at home are flying by much too quickly. It is wonderful to be here and I strive to fill each day with as many "mom" moments as I can before I must leave again. Being a family divided is one of the very difficult aspects of this journey. Comfort for my children's hearts - all six of them please - would also be a much needed prayer request...and mine could sure use it as well, if you would.

We press on...

Prayers are continuing for Amanda, your family and for Amanda's brave Mom whose faith and love in the face of each new challenge gives strength to all those around her....even those who are privileged to support you in prayer from the sidelines through this site....Your ability to find the good in every situation and point it out, to celebrate each small victory, plow ahead gracefully through each setback too, lifts us all up to appreciate what is good and true and holy.....
May God bless you richly and keep you and your family close always....

Just someone in Iowa who cares...
