First ... Amanda chose the title of this posting. :-)
Second ... here's the deal.
Amanda will need to stay here in Houston for a very specialized treatment plan involving a combination of assorted Chemo (possibly including an additional cancer study treatment as well), and also some radiation. Currently, the plan is for her to be here in Houston for a period of three weeks. The progress of the treatment will of course be closely monitored all along the way, and as the three week time comes to a close, reassessment will dictate where we go from there. Having said all of that, again, at the present time we are told to expect a three week stay and then hopefully to be heading back home.
Before I go any further, let me get out the hard news of the day. Dr. Anderson confirmed there are a few small spots on the lungs. These spots will be monitored very closely, and the hope is that the Chemo will effectively deal with them.
And now ... for the way forward ... Amanda will begin a regimen (tomorrow) of assorted Chemo's and at the same time be getting radiation on the new spot on the lower spine.
As we were considering a place to stay for three weeks, Denise called the church apartment ministry we used last summer, and they said it was a miracle that just today, unexpectedly, an apartment became available. Otherwise, they were booked solid. Frankly, as a dad right now, I'm not sure how to define such a thing as a miracle, and if I could choose one, would wish for something a little bigger than an apartment, as you might imagine. Be that as it may, I am still certainly thankful for the fact that this apartment worked out for us. These apartments are part of an important ministry coordinated by a group of churches in the area, of all different denominations. As you might imagine, it is common for families to need a place to stay in the Houston area for extended lengths of time, and these apartments are kept very nice and are ready to move into. It is such a blessing to families already overwhelmed from dealing with cancer.
Later this evening Denise and Amanda and I will formalize more specific plans about who goes where over the next few days. We've already discussed this some, but are still working through some of the details. We will probably post some of those details later tonight.
