This past week flew by quickly with Larry and Amanda here in Houston battling the wind, rain, flooded streets and Math books :-) I spent whirlwind days back in Columbia helping my children prepare for the start of the upcoming school year. Between meeting new teachers, shopping for school supplies, helping Joshua move out and into the apartment where he will live this year, lots of haircuts, first of the year paperwork, more birthday cake (Joshua turned 21 while I was home) and belated birthday gift shopping for Caleb (we chose his new cell phone) the days flew by much too quickly.
Sunday found me once again tearfully saying good-bye to my children but this time, the parting was different because we knew...
I was returning to Houston to pack up our apartment and move Amanda, Larry and I back home to Columbia!
YES! It has been confirmed for us that Amanda will complete her treatment time on Wednesday, the 22nd! We are so excited. This morning we had her final appointment with her radiology specialist (Dr. Woo) . Amanda will receive radiation on Tuesday, then on Wednesday morning we will meet with her Pediatric Oncologist, Dr. Anderson. Following our "exit appointment" with him, we will go down to Radiology and Amanda will receive her final radiation treatment. At approximately 10:40 a.m., if the wind is right, perhaps you will hear the joyful sound of Amanda ringing the bell. Here at MD Anderson each radiation patient who completes their treatment series earns the right to ring the bell as they leave. What a sound that will be...we can't wait!
Our time is almost complete here in Houston. It is hard to actually comprehend that. We have been so focused on our time here and Amanda's treatment, it almost doesn't seem real that we would be packing our things and heading back home.
Perhaps as I watch my daughter pull that rope and hear the sound of the bell...yeah, I think that will do it.
