Today (actually looking at the clock it was now yesterday...anyway,) Wednesday, was the first day of the Children's Miracle Network Radiothon for children's cancer.
I hope that you got an opportunity to listen in to one of the stations, the coverage and the interviews that they broadcast throughout the day mean so much to those of us whose children depend on that research money.
Caleb and I were excited when we heard Amanda's interview/story on one of the stations this morning. She did such a wonderful job sharing about her journey through this cancer battle. We were so proud of her. This afternoon she and I headed down to the lobby of the University Hospital where we participated in live interviews with each of the four stations. As each of the different radio spokespersons talked with her, over and over they commented on her smile... how peaceful she looked...her joy in the midst of this situation. Grown men reached for the Kleenex box, wiped their eyes and told her that they themselves did not carry her strength.
And what did Amanda do? She sat reassuring them that she was doing well and that because of her faith and the support that she receives from her loving family and friends that she had made it through this far. What a testimony. Whenever the opportunity was there, we spoke of our faith and in one interview in particular the man asked about her faith and she shared quite openly of how important her faith had been to her during this journey. It was awesome as a mother to watch my daughter be such a living testimony of God's goodness and grace.
This radio event will continue on through today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday). I understand that they will continue to re-play the different taped stories throughout the entire time. For those of you who have traveled this journey with us, I hope that you will be able to access one of the stations either locally or through the Internet and listen to the stories of faith, loss and hope that are shared there. If you are not certain where to find them I will list them again at the end of this note.
To those of you who have stood close to us, loved us and supported our entire family during this time, you are part of that smile that Amanda shared today. Thank you. Truly we would not be were we are today without you.
And if you can find it, listen in to one of the stations and perhaps you will hear Amanda's story. I think you will hear her heart in it. And if I might add, take a cue from me and the men of the radio stations...you will probably want to have a box of Kleenex close to you.
A mom, moved to tears many, many times myself today,

Denise,
Been listening to the radio-thon this week and bawling my eyes out! 8-)
Heard you and Amanda yesterday. You are both so amazing! They kept talking about Amanda's beautiful smile, and I could picture it in my mind as I was listening. I can picture it even now, as I write, it's making ME smile, and I think of how lucky I am to know her.
Thank you for sharing this emotional journey and your faith with us and with others.
Your family has & continues to bless my life!
Much Love,
Sherri
