It has been a very busy week for Amanda as she, Caleb (and all of our students!) are wrapping up their final assignments, projects and preparing for their end of the year finals.
This past Thursday was another new step in this continuing cancer journey. Amanda took her first oral chemo pill. She takes one each morning and, barring any complications, she will remain on this for years. In order to monitor how her body is handling this continual chemo boost, Amanda will have labs drawn each week. Our first lab draw is Friday morning.
Another unexpected change in our treatment schedule is that scans scheduled for May were moved first to June and now to the middle of July. There is discussion (and hope!) that the new research infusion that we are waiting to have Amanda receive will have been approved by the IRB (Internal Review Board) at the University and that we can have our scans and first infusions altogether in July.
This infusion series is very significant and Dr. Anderson feels very strongly about getting Amanda started on it so that it coincides with her oral chemo regiment. It is hard for us to continue to wait, but we work to trust that the timing of it remains in God's hands.
With all of these last minute, unexpected and sudden schedule changes (you can not imagine the number of phone calls I received over two days time!) we now have to reschedule Amanda's visit to the prosthesis center. She is very excited to have the permanent socket for her new leg. We will of course keep you posted as to when that Houston trip will occur.
Changes, lots of changes, but all of them continue us down the pathway of this journey. Thanks for continuing on with us.
